Alain Laigneaux

 

Alain Laigneaux is an expert in rural development and agriculture at the Belgian Development Agency (BTC). Armed with a strong education in agronomy, economy or rural development and anthropology, Alain Laigneaux gained experience in cooperation in different parts of the world. He is currently responsible for the BTC of the training and the follow-up of rural development projects in Algeria, Bolivia, Morocco, Peru, DR Congo and Senegal.

During RT5, he will talk about the role of a bilateral cooperation in the strengthening of family farming systems and market linkages.

Strengthening Family farming is at the heart of the Belgian strategy for agriculture and food security. In different contexts and with different approaches and tools, the Belgian bilateral cooperation aims to strengthen the underlying systems on which family farming relies and to improve market access in a more inclusive and sustainable way. The presentation will illustrate with some examples from ongoing or past BTC experiences in different countries, how effective the articulation between technical, organizational and policy dimensions in that perspective can be.
