Prof. Dr. Alassane B. NDIAYE is a Civil Engineer (Ponts et Chaussées/Transport Infrastructures), Master of Business Administration, Master of Transport Sciences and Doctor of Applied Sciences.

Educated in Logistics and Supply Chain Management Strategies at Stanford University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he is a Professor of Logistics, Quality and Transport Systems and Director of Qalinca Labs – Logistics & Transport Systems at the Polytechnic Faculty of the Universite Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium).

He was, until Dec 2012, Associate Professor and Lead Research Engineer at the University of Liege (Belgium) where he led the Transport Systems Group, a unit of the Naval Architecture & Transport Systems Lab. He is a founding member of two spin off companies active in the field of naval design, transport, logistics and supply chain management worldwide.

Dr. Ndiaye was in 2010-2011 a Visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley (USA). His expertise area spans from transport systems modelling, economics and & management to supply chain management including urban mobility management. He was involved in the last 20 years in more than 150 large industrial, institutional, R&D and development cooperation projects throughout the world (initiation, coordination, implementation, follow up, knowledge transfer).

Former Expert Adviser to the Ministry of Transport (2001-2004), he is (2004-2013) the Executive Director of the Belgian Interuniversity Centre for Mobility, Transport & Logistics (CIEM), a platform founded 10 years ago by 8 Belgian universities aiming, among other things, at enforcing the cross sectional and interdisciplinary approach to transport problems (both in education, R&D and development cooperation).

Prof. Ndiaye was appointed by the Belgian Federal Minister of Transport as a member of the Management Board of the Belgian Federal College of Transport Operators (road, air, maritime, rail, inland navigation). Prof. Ndiaye was recently appointed by the European Commission as a Member of the Horizon 2020 Advisory Group for Smart, Integrated and Green Transport.

He is an Adviser of many international organizations and guest Professor in Transport & Logistics Management in numerous universities in North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America and South East Asia.

Dr. Ndiaye’s expertise skills are particularly oriented towards the innovative ways of integrating ideas from latest research (both applied & fundamental) with best practices for the design, engineering, knowledge dissemination, implementation and management of value creative and sustainable solutions capable of driving complex transport systems and global supply chains to a high level of excellence.

During ResearchTalks Vol.8, Prof. Ndiaye will address the questions of current trends and challenges in the field of urban freight transport and present some of the latest developments and solutions in this field that may contribute to shape the future of the city logistics.
